Lighting systems for aquariums accomplish two distinct tasks. The first is providing the ability to sustain life of the fish and plants. The second role of the lighting system is to make your aquarium appealing and visually enjoyable to view.
In small fish only aquariums a single fluorescent full spectrum tube is sufficient. For larger aquariums twin tubes are recommended.
In heavily planted aquariums should ideally use twin fluorescent tubes. One tube should be a full spectrum bulb to properly enhance the coloration of the fish, and second tube should be a plant-oriented bulb providing light in the red part of the spectrum to promote photosynthesis.
